Old House Problems: Level Floors

My old 1921 home, like many of its age, has floors that aren’t perfectly level. My upstairs bedroom, which sits above the front porch, settled slightly after the house was built, but none of the previous owners addressed the issue in the ensuing century. They could have either torn up the flooring and added sister joists to level it, or spent the money to lift and level that section of the house.

I chose the former option, with the help of a contractor I’ve worked with before.

Tearing out the layers of flooring.
Flooring tore out, sister boards added, new insulation added. There was none as was the case with these old homes.
Subfloor down
Smoothing the walls to re-texture
New wood flooring going in.
Baseboard and wall painting completed
Moved my bed, etc. back into the room.

Since the initial move back into the room I’ve completed a few more items such as new blackout curtains, etc.

The room is now warm due to the new insulation and it’s also a quieter because of the type used. I’m very happy with the infrastructure changes to make my home a more comfortable place.
