Looking like a great ski season in Arizona!
The past few years of skiing in Arizona have been pretty dismal. We’d get a good few days here and there, but not enough for a person to go almost whenever they could. This past weekend I went to Sunrise Ski Resort in northeastern Arizona with a few friends for some skiing fun.
The snow was fantastic and the crowds were low due to us arriving Sunday and staying through Monday. We started on the Apache / Cyclone side on Sunday and enjoyed some long, enjoyable runs.
We stayed at the Sunrise Lodge Sunday night and although it closer to the resort I may end up staying in Pinetop next time due to the availability of nicer hotels and more dining options. I normally stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Pinetop where the rooms are newer, cleaner and the hot tub is clear enough to see the bottom (at the Sunrise Lodge the hot tub was only 4′ deep and entirely too cloudy for my comfort).
On Monday we went to the Sunrise side and went on as many trails as possible! The snow was even better and the weather was cool and calm.
Sunrise is supposed to get more snow in the coming week and I may end up going for another day or two in early 2016. Fingers crossed we’ll get more snow!!!
