Prius Stats – Love this car

Prius Stats – Love this car

At 86,000 miles I have used about 1,791 gallons of gasoline with my Prius. Compared to 4,095 I would have used with my old Subaru Legacy or Audi A4. That is a savings of 2,304 gallons of gasoline or about $6,912 in fuel savings at $3.00 per gallon (Prius also takes regular and my others took premium). Plus, the Prius was less expensive to purchase and maintain.  Yes, I do think it was a good investment and at 86,000 miles…

Where has the time gone

Where has the time gone

This year has gone by so far so fast.  I’m now on vacation in Rapid City, South Dakota visiting family, friends and checking out my old home town.   The vacation started out with an all school reunion at my old high school, Saint Martin’s Academy.  The local catholic diocese recently purchased the school from the Benedictine Nuns who ran it for many, many years and have converted the high school into the new grade school, added a new retreat…

2011 Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR! Add caption This past year’s fun… Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a happy, safe and prosperous New Year!  May 2012 be even better and let’s all hope the Mayans are off by a few thousand years. This past year has been a good one, filled with plenty of great memories of family, new friends and new experiences.  Early this year my dear little dog, Isabella passed away.  I was lucky enough to…

Someone makes Palin seem intelligent?

Someone makes Palin seem intelligent?

I never thought I would see the day when I would think, “Wow, she makes Sarah Palin seem intelligent.”  Well, I wouldn’t go so far as intelligent, just not as stupid as I normally think she is.   Michelle Bachmann has made some pretty stupid statements within day(s) of entering the herd of republicans now attempting to win the race for president in 2012.   Mixing up John Wayne with John Wayne Gacy?  http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-pn-bachmann-wayne-20110627,0,187514.story?track=rss   Even the Tea Baggers have…

Great blend tonight: apple, blueberries, strawberries, raw pumpkin seeds, raw almonds, aloe vera, ginger, kale, bananas, water and…can’t remember if that was all, but it was great!

Poison Oak is a bastard

Poison Oak is a bastard

On Tuesday my weekly prescription of Prednisone ran out and I was feeling pretty good, but by later that day I knew I was in trouble again.  I noticed that those areas which seemed to be clearing up were becoming red and irritated so I went back to the doctor this morning. Another week of Prednisone and steroid cream.  Fun.  Hopefully this  will take care of it.

Birthday Fun – SFO

Birthday Fun – SFO

This year’s birthday was similar to last year’s because I was not home for my actual birthday.   I was in San Francisco for work and stayed the weekend for the SF Hash House Harriers event “Bay to Blackout” which coincided with the 100th running of the “Bay to Breakers” 12K.   Monday night I ran/walked with the local HHH kennel and it turned out to be a wine hash event with three wine stops and a beer stop.  At…

Milton Miller – running across America will be here on Sunday

Hey runners, hikers and bikers!   This weekend Milton Miller will be stopping in Phoenix as he runs from Miami, FL to Los Angeles, CA.  He is raising money for EdenInAfrica.org, a fabulous organization that helps kids in one of the poorest parts of Africa.  You can track Milton’s progress here and learn more:  http://100daysofmadness.com/   Sounds crazy, right? He gets that a lot. But he lives by a guiding principle: If you don’t set yourself extremely ambitious goals, nothing…

Irons – Same brand, $30 dollar difference and more

Irons – Same brand, $30 dollar difference and more

About a year ago I bought a Rowenta professional grade iron for about $85 which was the best model at Target and made in Germany.  The build quality was excellent and I must admit that I am at fault for breaking the iron by using tap water and having it fall from the ironing board (once) which broke the spray nozzle, but didn’t impact its general functionality.   Well, last week I was using it and rust began to come…
