Callie 2012 – 2023
Remembering Callie
For those who’ve known Callie over the years, you know what a character she is, how she is VERY picky about who she likes…she loves women and a few men. She hates anything with wheels, squirrels, cats, basically anything other than Theo…and sometimes he isn’t even her favorite. She LOVED swimming in Wayne’s pool. She’s my grumpy girl who came into our pack around 2012 and was a great sister to Mooch and now to Theo (InstaHam).
When we left Arizona in 2018 I wasn’t sure if she would make it more than a year, but living in Washington was like a fountain of youth for her and she flourished. She loved the cooler weather, the trees, squirrels (mostly squirrels), and the cool streams that made her shiver.
We are lucky enough that her Auntie Jen moved up from Arizona and was able to spend so much time her with her (and Theo). Callie really changed when we moved to WA, she became much more relaxed and welcoming.
If she loved you, she really loved you. She helped Theo and me through so many tough times and soaked up a lot of tears as life presented its challenges.
Unfortunately she is getting older and the past few weeks have seen a rapid decline in her health, to the point that she’s ready to say goodbye. I think she was ready a few days ago, but I am struggling to say goodbye to her. We’ve setup a time tomorrow to say goodbye, but tonight will be a night for some of her favorite foods, namely sushi. She’ll get a few pieces of her favorites and other goodies. Theo will come with us tomorrow so he can say his farewells and sniff her one last time.
Thanks to everyone who has shown their love and compassion throughout her life as well as during this last phase.
I adopted Callie in early 2012 after she was my foster for quite a while. People thought that she looked “weird” because of her muzzle being short which made her tongue seem bigger than normal. It wasn’t any longer than any other dog, but she was smooshed in the womb so her face was a little different, but not weird or wrong. She is a little sweetheart and loved Mooch very much. She now loves (mostly tolerates Theo).
Now it’s 2022 and she’s still going strong. When we moved to Spokane, WA back in October of 2018 she really seemed to enjoy life much more. She loves the snow here and seems to really enjoy the cooler climate.
Update: Callie passed away in July of 2023 after a very rapid decline in her health. She had a long life with me, Mooch, and Theo. We miss her so much. Here is her memorial post.
